Dr Suzanne Madgwick is a Research Fellow studying cell cycle regulation in mammalian oocytes in the Biosciences Institute at Newcastle University. The research team use mouse and now bovine oocytes, focusing on both fundamental discovery science (to reveal important differences between healthy mitotic and female meiotic cell cycle regulation), and on developing new protocols to speed up and maximise the amount of information we gain from each oocyte. Ultimately, these techniques will be applied to human oocytes where they are powerful enough to reveal markers of competency as a discovery tool and can be valuable in clinic.
