Dr. James A Foster is a Professor of Biology and the Paul H Wornom MD Chair at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, USA. His research area is the cell biology of sperm and mammalian fertilization. Projects in the lab have studied a variety of sperm functions leading to fertilization including motility, metabolism, capacitation, cell signaling, and acrosome reaction. Currently the lab is focused on the structure and function of the acrosomal matrix, a scaffold-like multi-protein assembly in the sperm acrosome that is organized during spermiogenesis and is disassembled during acrosome reaction/exocytosis in the early stages of fertilization.
