Atsuo Ogura, Ph.D., D.V.M., deputy center director, RIKEN BioResource Research Center (BRC), obtained his PhD in 1987 from the University of Tokyo, Japan. While working at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), Japan, he had the opportunity to study at the University of Hawaii (1991-1992), where he started his career in reproductive biology under the supervision of Dr. Ryuzo Yanagimachi (Yana). In 2002, he moved to RIKEN BRC. His research focuses on the biology of reproduction and development, including, ICSI, SCNT, stem cells, generation of genetically modified animals, and cryopreservation of gametes/embryos in mice, golden, rabbits, and marmosets.
