Lonny Levin is Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Weill Cornell Medicine. In 1999, along with Dr. Jochen Buck, he purified and cloned mammalian soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC, ADCY10). Together they demonstrated that sAC activity is directly regulated by bicarbonate ions and functions as a biological sensor for carbon dioxide, bicarbonate, and pH. Most recently, they demonstrated in vivo proof-of-concept that sAC inhibitors can provide nonhormonal, on-demand contraception in males.
